Clover Cures
Plant Medicine with Maeve
The humble clover (Trifolium pratense) grows abundantly in temperate regions throughout the world. Believed to have originated in southeastern Europe near the Mediterranean Sea, encompassing modern day Croatia, where Maeve’s father is from and where she spends the summer each year. The clover grows happily in the Eastern United States where Maeve lived the first forty one years of her life and also in Spain, where she now lives. Of course the clover is also a famous symbol of luck in Ireland, Maeve’s maternal ancestral homeland.
Beloved by bees and nourishing for the soils in which it grows, the small beauty can be found in meadowlands, on lawns and even flourishes in the cracks of the sidewalk.
Medicinally, Red clover offers myriad benefits. It is rich in minerals (like calcium, magnesium and potassium), supports skin health, moves the lymph, protects against xenoestrogens, eases PMS symptoms, and so much more.
With roots that stabilize, leaves that symbolize hope and a flower in purple- a color associated with consciousness, inner wisdom and a connection to the energy of the universe- the clover embodies the work of the herbalist.
