Workshops

Herbal medicine is the people’s medicine. It is meant to be shared and passed down from generation to generation. While herbal traditions are still strong in some cultures, in much of the world it is lost.

Maeve’s workshops aim to empower participants by reconnecting them with our herbal allies. In our workshops we will learn about herbs for seasonal living, herbs for common ailments, herbs for children, medicine making, food as medicine and much more. Participants will walk away with practical new knowledge and skills so that they can take care of themselves and their loved ones.

Kitchen Medicine

Transform your spice rack staples into potent medicine

From cardamom and cinnamon to thyme and rosemary- seemingly humble culinary herbs and spices are in fact powerful herbal allies. Many common kitchen herbs and spices are excellent winter remedies to help boost immunity, improve circulation, relieve and prevent symptoms of colds and flu and to lift the spirits on the darker shorter days of the year.

In this Introduction to Kitchen Medicine led by Clinical Herbalist Maeve Bace, you will explore how common kitchen staples function as potent herbal medicines. Participants will gain the  knowledge and skills to use herbs and spices to support their health and well being in every day life.

The workshop covers:

Organoleptics: Herbalists use taste, sight, smell, and touch as the first step in understanding a plant's potential effects on the body.

Herbal energetics: A traditional framework for perceiving how herbs interact with the body based on their qualities of being hot/cold, wet/dry, or tense/lax.

Traditional Uses: Our ancestors used herbs and spices as vital medicine. Together we will explore these historical and cultural applications.

Medicinal Preparations: Different herbs require different preparations to create the most potent medicine. Learn how to make basic herbal preparations such as infusions, decoctions and oxymels.
